Samick Remington OM13-CE Review

As a diversion from the ornate guitar-track into a more natural style, the Samick Remington OM13-CE does a great job. At least, according to GuitarGearHeads in their review of the acoustic guitar.

Construction was deemed solid, with clear tones and balanced sound - though only for light and medium strumming. Like most orchestra model guitars, higher tones were overly accentuated during aggressive strumming.

Overall, the sub-US$500 cedar top guitar was touted as a “great intermediate guitar”, and was awarded GGH’s Rig Ready and Approved Awards for 2006.

Alvarez Masterworks MD350C Acoustic Guitar Review

You might think only older and established things can be masterworks. But after reading this review on the new Alvarez Masterworks MD350C acoustic guitar, I’m certain you’ll be cleared of that misconception.

Well, with a recommended price of US$1699, I guess quality would have been expected, but even for guitars in this price range, the MD350C seemed to have performed admirably.

It may not be a guitar for a beginner whose passion for guitars has yet to be confirmed, but if you’re an experienced amateur or professional, I’m certain GuitarGearHeads’ final verdict with take you to the store:

The MD350C was a pure pleasure to review. I really enjoy playing this guitar and I will be adding it to my own personal guitar arsenal. Because of this, I award the MD350C the 2006 Rig Ready Award as well as the 2006 Guitar Gear Heads Approved award.

Rogue AB-304 Review

Rogue AB-304 Acoustic-Electric Guitar Picture
(Source: Musician’s Friend)

Acoustic-electric bass guitars are a tough nut to crack here at GuPiano due to the crazy number of categories they fall under. Yep, you’ll see this Rogue AB-304 categorised under acoustic guitars, electrics and even bass guitars. But the worst part of the whole thing is that the displeasure doesn’t stop with categorisation.

It’s reviewer over at Ultimate-Guitar.com goes so far to say that, “If it were to get stolen or lost I wouldn’t buy this bass again. I love how beautiful it looks but I hate how you can barely hear it without an amp and how touchy it is.” It’s a pity though, because with die-cast machine heads, piezo pickup and volume control, abalone rosette, top binding, plus mahogany sides, back and neck, the AB-304 looks like a pretty solid bass.

Overall, this Korean-made guitar scores a measely 5.8 out of 10 for its overall rating - though for features, it does get a more respectable 7 out of 10.

Paul McCartney's First Acoustic Guitar Picture
(Source: Pravda.Ru)

99% of you guys probably know this already, but no harm catering for the remaining 1% I guess.

Anyway, Sir Paul McCartney’s first guitar - a Rex acoustic - will be going under the hammer on the 28th of July at Cooper Owen’s Music Legends in order to fund the retirement of its owner, one of Sir McCartney’s school friend’s, Ian James.

It will include a letter of authencity and a photograph of the Beatles legend playing the guitar, as well as a picture of Mr. James playing the guitar decades ago (which according to the Independent, was taken by Sir McCartney).

Ovation CC057 Celebrity Reviews

We have with us today two user reviews of the Ovation CC057 Celebrity acoustic guitar from Ultimate-Guitar.com. While the two reviewers paid substantially different prices for the guitar, both reviews reinforce each other as both award perfect scores (10 out of 10) to the guitar.

The first user’s verdict is that, “This guitar suits my music perfectly. The guitar is a lovely honey burst which shows the wood finish and match line perfectly through its trans finish. I have been playing for 3 years, and have learnt quite quickly over the passed few months. If it were stolen I would definitely instantly buy another! Only positives, no hates about the guitar at all! My favourite feature is the onboard Eq, which allows to adjust tone without an extra pedal ruining your signal. I wish it had solid gold tuners, other than that its perfect!”

And the second user concludes that, “Whether it is for song-writing, sitting around and playing in my room, or plugged in at band practice, this guitar performs extremely well. I can’t say much about my dislikes; the action was set up a bit poorly out of the box, but that’s an easy fix. Whether you plan to take this with you on the road or plan to buy it for an easy alternative to plugging in your electric guitar, you can’t go wrong with the Ovation CC057.”

Acoustic Receives Self-Tuning Treatment

Epiphone 1963 Firebird VII Electric Guitar Picture
(Source: CNET News.com)

Well, it seems that the Performer automatic tuning system has been ported over to acoustic guitars, namely the Gibson Chet Atkins SST. Previously, it was exclusive to electrics, such as Gibson’s Les Paul and Fender’s Stratocaster and Telecaster electric guitars.

The Performer self-tuning system consists of small electric motors and rocker arms that automatically change the tension of open strings to pitches set by the player. So, all you need to do is to tune your guitar once (and fix it as your preset), and the system will automatically tune it for you the next time (and the time after, etc.).

Pretty time and effort-saving if you ask me, but I’m not sure if something as “sacred” as tuning your own guitar should be substituted by electronics. Call me a technophobe, but I feel some things should be kept old-school.

2nd Cort Parkwood PW-310M Review

(Source: Thomann)

Yeap, another Cort Parkwood PW-310M acoustic guitar review. And this time, it’s by a Harmony Central user.

That’s practically the only big difference though, since this user also awards the PW-310M an excellent rating of 9 out of 10. In fact, in major categories such as sound, action, fit, finish and durability, the Cort PW-310M scored perfect 10s.

So, given such excellent ratings, what’s the final verdict on the acoustic? Well, “If you are seeking a “Loud” acoustic guitar that sounds like a dream, This would be the one for you. I am very happy with this guitar. I predict once the word gets out of this new line of acoustics by PArkwood/Cort, they will give all the leaders a run for their money!”
